My Identity.

B. Kamilah Ricketts

I would describe my writing as serious and conversational. I am a naturally funny person and I can be fun to be around but in my writing -that’s the only place I really allow myself to search for the real me.

I tend to write about things that are a lil heavy. I do this in the creative non fiction genre the most. But, I do love to write a short story or even a poem if I can’t find a lot of words. I never really know what’s going to come out on the paper. I just start writing and I let it flow.

Sometimes I look at my work and I’m like “damn, that’s really depressing”. But I swear I don’t usually just randomly talk about these things, it’s just more like my feeling the need to tell my story. So I write.

I write for people who feel lost in love or in life. I write so people don’t feel so alone in what they’re going through. I noticed that the more difficulties I face, the older I get, the less I feel like I can talk about it with friends and family. Writing is my safe space. I hope that my readers feel safe here too.
